WELCOME PARENTS
This class is probably going to be a different experience for your sons and daughters than anything they have done at South High School. With that in mind, I need your help. I never want you or your child to feel as though you don't understand my expectations. If either of you are feeling any confusion, please contact me.
INFORMATIONAL DOCUMENTS
Below are a few documents that I will be going over in class. I have put them here so that you can share in the experience with your child.
During different parts of the year I will be using a classroom format known as a "Blended Classroom." This means that I am mixing in a lot of media and student directed activities with my own instruction.
INTRODUCTION TO A BLENDED CLASSROOM
In order to be successful your sons and daughters will have to be organized. To ensure that everyone is keeping up and staying organized, I am going to ask that everyone keep a very specific binder for this class.
BINDER INSTRUCTIONS
This class is going to be paperless, mostly. In order to do this the students in my class need to follow my procedures to turn in their lab reports and other assignments.
TURNING IN AN ASSIGNMENT ONLINE
The "behind the scenes" part of this that makes everything possible is going to be Google's Apps for Education, Google Drive, and the website TurnItIn.com. These tools will make it possible for me to send work to the students and for them to send things back to me for input and grading.

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH SUPPORTING BLENDED LEARNING
I recently found an article which explains how this type of class worked out in a College Chemistry class at Pennsylvania State University's Berks College. I am implementing many of the same techniques that are shown to be successful in this paper. Some of the tactics used in the class are not appropriate for high school. One of the major differences is that we actually have a lot more time in our class than they do at university. If our students are efficient in class, they will have a lot more individualized attention in class than they are used to receiving.

INFORMATIVE VIDEOS ABOUT BLENDED LEARNING
This video does a nice job of explaining several models of blended learning that are in use today. The model I am using is a modified version of the class rotation system that is described.
